Windfarm Vlieland
A wind farm is a collection of modern windmills or wind turbines designed to generate wind energy. The wind turbines of a wind farm are always going to be more noticeable. In the beginning they stood on their own at a farm. Their height was to relate to, for example trees in the neighborhood.
From 1975 to 2010, the mast height increased from about twenty meters to almost two hundred meters high, higher than the Euromast in Rotterdam. In order to prevent that the wind turbines each other to affect yield, they are placed from each other, the rotor diameter on average about six times. At a rotor diameter of 80 meters is the distance between two wind turbines therefore, 480 meters.
With increasing height, it was recognized that a number of wind turbines together (the wind farm) is an independent element of the landscape, which must also be designed as such in the landscape. The Dutch province of Flevoland is an example of an area where many small groups of wind turbines lead to a restless and undesirable to some scenic view.
Placement of very large turbines in the Netherlands begins to encounter more and more objections from local residents. Especially if a wind energy project includes more than three turbies, is increasingly made a thorough landscape design or investigated at least. In addition, the turbine locations are together made into a design as beautiful as possible.
